Demna’s First Gucci Collection Drops: Why It’s a Game-Changer for the Brand

Gucci is making a bold statement under its new artistic director, Demna. The house just surprised the fashion world by dropping a 37-look collection, “La Famiglia,” on Instagram ahead of Milan Fashion Week. This move signals a new, faster-paced strategy for the brand as it embarks on a highly-anticipated revival.

A New Vision for Gucci

Demna’s initial collection is a study in “Gucciness,” a clear message to both consumers and investors. The lookbook, shot by Catherine Opie, introduces a cast of archetypal characters, from “La Bomba” to “L’influencer,” showcasing a witty and archival-driven vision. The collection reintroduces iconic pieces, like the Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag and classic loafers, which are expected to be key in the brand’s turnaround.

According to a press release, “La Famiglia” serves as the aesthetic foundation for Demna’s vision, leading up to his official runway show for the Autumn/Winter 2026 season. The collection is available now in select flagship stores, a strategic move to inject newness into retail locations ahead of the full collection launch.

The Pressure to Revive an Icon

This quick drop underscores the immense pressure on Gucci to regain its market position. The brand has seen a significant dip in sales, and all eyes are on Demna and new CEO Francesca Bellettini to reverse the trend.

As fashion consultant Dryce Lahssan notes, “Demna is a master of storytelling.” This first step, though rooted in the archives, is designed to reassure stakeholders that the designer can adapt his style. It’s a compelling start to what promises to be an exciting new era for Gucci.
